Do you do SEO (search engine optimization)?
On an ongoing basis, no. PS does not perform keyword research, edit meta tags, saturate your site’s content with keywords, set up Google AdWords or AdSense, or any other day-to-day SEO operations. PS will, however, set up a framework for your site so that you can do this yourself. The reason for this is that whoever’s making editorial decisions (adding new content, determining site’s information architecture) is best informed and best prepared to carry out an SEO strategy.
Do you offer web hosting and/or email hosting?
PS doesn’t have enough bandwidth (no pun intended) to provide these services in addition to design. PS can recommend hosting companies, though, if you’re creating a new site, or if you’re interested in migrating.
You mentioned migrating. My site is _____-based, and I want to migrate to WordPress or Joomla. Can you do that?
Yes–in fact, a healthy percentage of PS’s work involves translating static or Flash-based sites to a CMS. In the event that you’re changing hosting companies, PS will also migrate your site’s files and database(s) to your new hosting company. However, if your pages are static HTML pages, rather than database items, it will be far more cost-effective for someone in your organization to migrate the individual pages. Important: PS is not responsible for any negative change in your site’s search engine positioning following a migration. (PS will happily take credit for an improvement, though.)
Will you be our webmaster and handle day-to-day operations of our site?
It depends on the expected workload. If it’s more than 5 hours per week (20 per month), PS will not be able to enter into an ongoing services contract. If it’s less than that, however, PS can arrange a services contract based on the hourly rate, with a negotiable minimum monthly guarantee.
What’s the “statute of limitations” on your work? Will you fix bugs afterwards? What if you build our site, and 6 months later we want some enhancements?
For two weeks after the completion of your site, PS will make complimentary modifications/fixes , provided they’re within the original scope of the project. After the two-week testing period, any additional work will cost ya, with the cost calculated on an hourly or project basis as appropriate.
What is your site made with? Surely you must use a little Flash for all those animations.
First of all, please don’t refer to me as Shirley. Secondly, no, this site uses no Flash whatsoever. I believe that a site is useless unless you can look at it on an iPhone. So postmodernsublime.com uses jQuery effects exclusively for all its visual interest. I’m not opposed to using sIFR (Flash replacement) to generate custom bits of text–several of my sites use this technique–but in 99% of cases, I think a totally Flash-based site is unnecessary.
